Road signs(papan tanda) in Bahasa Melayu.

To recap, Cikgu showed us the stark difference between the words tolong (help) and sila (please). To use Tolong would mean to request for something while to use sila would mean to take an offer.

For example, sila can be used as such,

-Sila cakap (Please talk)

-Sila minum teh (Please drink your tea)

-Sila diam (Please be quiet)

-Sila lari cepat sedikit (Please run faster)

Tolong on the other hand would be used in this manner,

-Tolong beli kopi (please help to buy coffee)

-Tolong cuci pinggan (please help to wash the dishes)

Tolong kemas bilik.(please help to clean the room).

However, if sila is used in placement of tolong in this sentence

eg;Sila beli kopi. Then it would sound like it’s coming from a coffee seller who’s asking people to buy his coffee.

I thought that was vital information as I often get confused with these two words sila and tolong in particular.

By the way,I thought that since we’re already halfway into the special term, there might be some who’d be keen in familiarising themselves with the road signs(those in malay of course). So to those who intend to drive to Malaysia somewhere in the near future perhaps?,u can always use this for your perusal :)Anyways even if you’re not so gung-ho about the idea, a little extra information wouldn’t hurt right?
